My nearly forgotten portuguese banknote collection, all issued before the removal from circulation and the introduction of the Euro, in 2002.
The portuguese "escudos" were in circulation since 1911.

20 Escudos - Garcia de Orta - 1971
The frontof this beautiful uncirculated portuguese Banknoteis illustrated withthe portrait of Garcia De Orta (1501 - 1568) - physician, naturalist and pioneer of tropical medicine, holding a book, on the right. The reverse shows the image of 16th century market in Goa, India, (where he went in 1536, and lived until his death), with one crowd scene and houses in background.
